Out & About
The area we live in is known as Assynt which lies within the North West Highlands Geopark.
The village of Lochinver which is two miles away is a fishing port. It has restaurants, pubs and hotels, shops including petrol station, bank, post office, visitor centre, leisure centre and Highland Stoneware Pottery.
The area is renowned for its beautiful beaches including Achmelvich, Clachtoll, Stoer and Clashnessie.
Visitors who like the outdoors can enjoy many low level walks through woodlands, along rivers and over moorlands, one of which is an all-abilities path.
For the more energetic visitor there are challenging mountains to climb including Ben More Assynt, Conival (both munros), Suilven, Canisp and Quinag to mention a few.
Sitting on the shores of Loch Assynt are the ruins of Calda House and Ardvreck Castle, the ancient stronghold of the MacLeods.
The areas outstanding geological interest includes the Moine Thrust at Kylesku and the Knockan Crag Visitor Centre.
